Safely Dispose of Prescription Drugs
If you cannot reach a prescription drug disposal site, don’t worry. We are happy to ship a prescription drug disposal bag to you at no cost. Deterra bags are an effective way to safely dispose of drugs like prescription pain medications found in your home. By using a Deterra bag, it keeps medicines out of your cabinets and out of the local water sources and landfills. The bags use a patented neutralizer that deactivates pills, liquids and patches. The Erie County Health Department is offering free drug deactivating bags as an effort to discourage opiate misuse and to offer an environmentally safe way to dispose of unused or old medications.
